Anyone who is on a diet knows that cheese is a no-no but if you love cheese and want to watch your weight and your health there is one type of cheese that can be okay to eat - cottage cheese.

If you are on a strict diet but your taste buds can't say no to the deliciously cheesy taste of processed dairies, perhaps you would want to give cottage cheese a try. Cottage cheese, you see, is a cheese specialty that just as flavorful as it is healthy. It is low in fat and carbohydrates, but it possesses a lot of protein, protein which, as we all know, will make our bodies stronger and more resilient against diseases. Protein supplies our cells with the ingredient it needs for proper regeneration, which in effect will pave the way for our body's optimal growth.

But it's not only the health advantages that make cottage cheese great - it also tastes good!  Many people eat it right out of the package by itself in a big scoop.  While it's not often used as an ingredient in dishes it can be eaten with many other foods such as fruits, vegetables, and crackers.  It's been enjoyed by many and even former President Richard Nixon likes to eat it with ketchup and black pepper.

This cheese type does produce a distinctive taste, the reason why it has become a prime ingredient for many popular recipes. Lasagna, jello salad and a bevy of desserts will not be complete without a tinge of this cheese gracing their presentation.

Cottage cheese is not solid like other cheeses it's more mushy and lumpy as it is made from cheese curds.  While cheese curds are best served within 12 hours of production to flavor is somewhat preserved with the retention of the way as the curds are drained and not pressed.  Cottage cheese curds are washed so they are not as acidic and the result is a sweeter cheese which does not need coloring and is white in natural color.

Indeed, this milky white interior is one of the things that make this cheese type very alluring. One glance at a plate of this cheese type, and your mouth is sure to water and crave for a taste of the pureness of this dairy product. It's no wonder, really, why this cheese variety has constantly become one of the most cherished cheeses in the world today. A mention of its name and people will be left clamoring for a bite.
